The big "Barn Raising" event of Project Acts 2002 was held the weekend of June 1-2. (Some preparation was done during the preceeding week, to provide a safe workplace.) About 85 people turned up to help on Saturday. Many worked on construction, while others prepared and served meals for all. Volunteers came to us from Saints Peter and Paul Lutheran Church in Hancock, the Lutheran Brotherhood branch, and the community. We were blessed with an injury-free, productive weekend. Many of the participants were amazed at the skill of our volunteers! The Lord provided excellent weather for the work we had planned.

Exterior framing for the lower level and the upper sub-floor were in place when we started work at 8 am Saturday morning. Three crews worked on building the three upper level exterior walls. Another crew began the interior framing of the lower level. A fifth crew began demolition of the existing roof overhang. By 10 am the walls began going up, and by noon a crew was walking on the partially completed roof! A crew moved inside to complete framing the upper level, while roofers worked above and another crew began siding and setting windows. The interior framing was completed Saturday. By the end of day Sunday the entire exterior was complete and ready for paint.

AAL Branch 1629 is organizing Project Acts 2002 and providing Helping Hands matching funds. The congregation of Saints Peter and Paul Lutheran Church in Hancock has contributed financial support and most of the volunteers. The Lutheran Brotherhood branch has donated funding and additional volunteers. We have also received support from the community at large, both funding and volunteer labor.

We extend a special word of thanks to the local businesses and tradesmen who have donated material or labor, or have sold us materials at substantial discounts. This has been a great demonstration of how people and businesses in the Copper Country band together in a common cause. We are blessed to be part of such a great community.
